Letter from Principal

Established in 1873, St. John Catholic School was the first Catholic school in the Jackson area. Today, our kindergarten through sixth grade program provides a blend of rich Catholic tradition with academic excellence in a safe, nurturing environment.  Faith formation, strong curriculum, enrichment opportunities, remedial accommodations, integration of technology, specials’ classes, and service are just some of the things that make St. John an excellent choice for your child.

Our preschool program for 3, 4 and young 5 year olds has been purposefully designed as the first step in your child’s academic career. Through Reading Buddies with older students and involvement in various all-school activities, our preschoolers are truly a part of our St. John School family.  For our students, advancing to Kindergarten is not a leap, but a natural and comfortable step.

Dedicated teachers, engaged parents and a warm, welcoming family atmosphere provide a firm foundation for ensuring the success of your child at St. John School.

Mission

St. John School educates students of all faiths in a safe, nurturing Christ-centered environment.

Vision

Guided by our Catholic Tradition, we provide the highest quality education and empower students to excel spiritually, intellectually and emotionally.  We inspire them to reach their full potential and be the Light of Christ in this life and for eternity.

Academics

St. John Catholic School has a solid reputation for helping children reach their full potential as learners. By incorporating the best of old-school traditions and values with progressive teaching methods and learning tools, our students receive the finest education possible.  Differentiated instruction, as well as remedial and enhancement services, help us meet each child’s needs.

Learning experiences are enhanced through Accelerated Math and Reading programs, SMART Boards and iPads, field trips and the use of community resources.  Along with the core subject areas, our students receive instruction in Spanish, art, physical education, technology, library and music.

Faith

Our Catholic faith is at the core of who we are and all we do.  Our students experience daily religious instruction and prayer, and monthly Eucharistic adoration. In addition to learning about our faith, it is a part of our Catholic tradition to be the hands and feet and heart of Jesus through service to our school, our parish, our community, and to our world.

We invite you to join us at our weekly Friday school Masses where our children’s enthusiastic praying and singing will spiritually uplift you and make a lasting impression on your hearts.

Enrichment

As a part of our goal to educate the whole child, St. John Catholic School offers opportunities for students to explore their interests both during and after school.  In addition to the specials’ classes, we offer band and choir; broadcasting, yearbook and technology clubs, and a student-run credit union branch.  Our students also participate in a variety of sports and athletic programs.  After school art, science and Girl Quest programs are available for an additional charge.
